Following England’s first Grand Slam win since 2003 in this years RBS Six Nations Championship, BBC Wales Scrum V analyst Sean Holley picks out his unsung heroes from the six countries.
In an intriguing campaign, new England Head Coach Eddie Jones stamped his immediate authority on the Northern Hemisphere with a Championship winning team. Warren Gatland’s Wales had to settle for second place after failing to deal with England at Twickenham but then recording a resounding win against Italy in the final round.
Ireland, decimated by injuries and retirements rallied to claim the battle for third place over an improved Scotland, who, earlier in the campaign had recorded back to back Six Nations victories over Italy and France. In new coach Guy Noves’ first Six Nations France never looked like threatening and finished a lowly fifth, and in Jacques Brunel’s final Six Nations as Italy coach, the Azzuri failed to record a single win and conceded 18 tries in their final two matches as they collected another wooden spoon.
